Protect workers
Ontario’s economy runs because of workers. Unifor National President Lana Payne is at the table advocating for a united Canadian response, meeting with government officials, and pushing for strong retaliatory measures while demanding worker support programs.
Unifor is calling on the Ontario government and all Premiers to build wrap around support for workers experiencing job loss and plant closures including direct income support and retraining. When we protect our jobs, we ensure that our economy remains resilient and robust. By voting, we can elect leaders who will show a united front against unfair trade practices and support workers who are harmed in this fight.
Secure the Economy
President Trump’s threat of 25% tariffs on Canadian goods is an existential threat to the Ontario economy, and particularly the auto assembly, auto parts and other trade-exposed manufacturing workplaces.
Ontario must prepare for a rigorous defense of our economy, including retaliatory and response measures where needed. Workers must be meaningfully included in decisions affecting our industries and livelihoods.
Save Public Services
Ontario’s health care system remains in crisis and is under threat from privatization and still dangerously low staffing levels. Our public services, from healthcare to education, rely on a strong economy. By protecting jobs, we ensure that these essential services are funded and maintained. Voting for leaders who understand this connection is vital for the future of our public services.
As families face down a worsening affordability crisis, child care is one of the few expenses that has decreased for many. The province needs to protect the $10 a day program and invest in new child care spaces.
